Selling off public infrastructure will cost us all

The Liberal government has proposed selling off Canada’s airports and marine ports in a massive infrastructure privatization scheme. The secretive plan would give unprecedented control (and massive profits) to large multinational companies at the expense of all Canadians.

This privatization plan has been met with a wave of criticism, and for good reason. Private infrastructure schemes have been proven to cost people more and deliver less while wealthy investors reap the rewards.

This plan is recklessly short-sighted. Canadians are going to pay the price through new tolls and user fees that benefit corporations’ bottom lines.

The Liberal privatization scheme uses private investment even though the government can finance projects at a much lower cost.

It’s clear that instead of looking out for the interests of Canadians and our communities, the Liberals are letting private investors set the government’s priorities, leaving you to pick up the tab.

New Democrats are fighting to block this massive sell-off and ensure our airports, marine ports, and other major infrastructure projects remain in public hands. With the Liberal plan, Canadians are going to pay the price.

Canadians deserve a government that works for everyone, not just the wealthy and the well-connected.
