In order for there to be reconciliation there must also be truth, accountability and justice for every single survivor and child killed in residential schools.

That’s why Jagmeet Singh’s NDP will work with Indigenous communities to find every child. A New Democrat government will appoint a special prosecutor to hold accountable those responsible for the atrocities committed in residential schools. He’ll also:

• Fully fund forensic investigations at sites of former residential schools.
• Make churches and governments hand over all records that could be helpful in identifying the children who lay buried in unmarked graves, or in finding individuals who were involved in their deaths.
• Fully acknowledging the harm caused to Indigenous children, their families and communities by the residential school system is an essential step down the path to reconciliation, and it can’t wait.
