On Pink Shirt Day, I am proud to stand with Canadians everywhere working to end bullying.
As a teacher, I experienced firsthand the terrible effects of bullying on my high school students. It is so important to challenge behavior and actions that are detrimental to the well-being of young people.
So many organizations across the country undertake this difficult and vital work every day – thank you for your tireless efforts.
I would say to all those being bullied, do not hesitate to talk about what is happening to you. Your family, friends, school or community organizations can help.
Believe in yourself and in your dreams. Many of the most successful artists, athletes, and community leaders were bullied at some point in their lives.
Today, as we see a rise in the politics of division that tries to pit people against one another, we recommit to ending bullying and standing up for the values of inclusion, compassion, and openness.
