Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition, Tom Mulcair, on Eid al-Adha

New Democrats join me in wishing a happy Eid al-Adha to all Canadians who are celebrating today.

Eid al-Adha – also known as Festival of Sacrifice – is one of the most important holidays for the world’s Muslim community. It marks the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca that is one of the five pillars of Islam.

In Canada this celebration is commemorated with special prayers and festivities held amongst family and friends.

I wish you a joyful celebration and thank all members of Canada’s Muslim community for their contribution to our society’s growth and improvement.
