Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition on Holocaust Memorial Day
The Leader of the Official Opposition, Tom Mulcair (Outremont), made the following statement on Holocaust Memorial Day:
“New Democrats join all Canadians today in observing Yom HaShoah – Holocaust Memorial Day – and honouring the memory of the 6 million Jewish victims of the Shoah.
In remembering those who perished in the Holocaust we recall the great potential of all these lives cut down and honour those who sacrificed everything resisting.
“On this day, we remember these most barbaric crimes and recommit ourselves to the work of defending human rights and confronting anti-Semitism, prejudice and intolerance.
“We pledge ourselves to not simply say never again but take responsibility as individuals and nations to promote respect and human rights, in Canada and around the world.”
