Singh calls on Champagne to reject Rogers-Shaw merger

OTTAWA — Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, has written to Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, François-Philippe Champagne, to call on him to reject the Rogers-Shaw merger as Friday’s deadline approached.

“Canadians need lower cell and internet bills, not higher prices. We need more good jobs, not layoffs,” said Singh in his letter.

A weak Competitions Act tied the hands of the Competitions Tribunal and the courts — the decision to allow or reject the merger is now up to Champagne.
