New Democrats wish Canadians Chag Hanukkah Sameach

Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

"On behalf of all New Democrats, I would like to wish all of those celebrating a happy first night of Hanukkah.

This year, on the minds of many Jewish Canadians and non-Jewish Canadians are the horrendous attacks by Hamas this fall and the rise of antisemitism in our communities across Canada. These acts are completely unacceptable — New Democrats condemn them loudly and we renew our commitment to fight against antisemitism whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head. We stand with Jewish Canadians in the fight against hate.

On this first night of Hanukkah, Canadian families, friends, neighbours and communities will gather to light the first candle and reflect about peace, love and conviviality. This festival of lights is a time to remember the accomplishments of all those who came before, and look ahead with optimism, commitment and focus to building a fairer, a more just world for all.
