NDP Statement on Mid-Autumn Festival
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:
On behalf of New Democrats across the country, I want to wish everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival. This important holiday tradition is celebrated by many Asian communities people around the world.
This festival, often called the Moon festival, has been a time to celebrate the autumn harvest. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the last year and look forward to the year ahead. To commemorate this occasion, Chinese Canadians across our country as well as people of Japanese, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Korean descent celebrate this beautiful cultural festival by making brightly coloured lanterns, gathering to watch the full moon and enjoying mooncakes with neighbours, family and friends.
At this time of year, we reflect on all the contributions that have been made by Chinese-Canadians and all of the diverse and beautiful cultures and communities who celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. You continue to make our country a stronger, more vibrant place for everyone.
As celebrations take place across our country, I want to wish everyone joy and peace during the Mid-Autumn Festival and for the year ahead.
