NDP statement to mark the 107th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge
Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:
“Today, we remember the bravery, courage and sacrifice of all the Canadians who fought at Vimy Ridge during the First World War.
This year marks the 107th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, where 3,600 Canadians died, in an effort to bring stability and peace to the world.
This was an important victory, not only in ending this brutal war but also since it was the first time the four divisions of the Canadian Corps fought together.
Reflecting on the sacrifices of the past also compels us to remember the dedication of today’s Canadian Armed Forces personnel working to bring stability to regions around the world.
On this day of commemoration, New Democrats are standing with the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve Canada, at home and abroad.
Lest we forget.”
