NDP statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2025
Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh issued the following statement:
“This day marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp. New Democrats honour the memory of the more than six million Jewish people who were murdered in the holocaust simply for being Jewish. We also remember the five million Slavs, three million ethnic Poles, 200,000 Romani people, 250,000 disabled people and 9,000 LGBTQI+ people who were systematically and brutally murdered by the Nazi regime.
The pain of this heinous genocide continues to echo through generations, including the Canadian children and grandchildren of Survivors and victims of the holocaust. And, sadly, not only do Jewish families still face antisemitism in Canada, it’s on the rise, making Jewish people less safe.
More than ever, we must listen to the warnings from Survivors, hear and record their memories, and stand with the Jewish community. New Democrats renew our commitment to ‘never again’ – in not just words – but in action. We call on all political parties to ensure that every Jewish Canadian feels safe to express their identity and faith without fear of discrimination and violence. Every person who is a target of a hate crime deserves justice.
Today and every day, I remember, and I stand with the Jewish community."
