NDP statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2024
Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh issued the following statement:
“On the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp, we solemnly honour the memory of the more than six million Jewish people that who were murdered in the Holocaust. We also remember the five million Slavs, three million ethnic Poles, 200,000 Romani people, 250,000 disabled people and 9,000 LGBTQI+ people who were also systematically and brutally murdered for simply being themselves.
Today, antisemitism is at dangerously high levels in Canada and around the world. Now, more than ever, we must heed the warnings of survivors, stand with the Jewish community, and root out hate in all its forms.
These are not and cannot be partisan issues. It is essential that all leaders work together to ensure that every Canadian feels safe to express their identity, faith, and true selves without fear of discrimination and violence.
We acknowledge the enduring pain and loss suffered by the Jewish people and we renew our commitment to combatting antisemitism in all its forms.
I, along with all New Democrats stand with the Jewish people today and every day.”
