NDP Statement on the International Day of La Francophonie

Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, issued the following statement:

Today, New Democrats join Francophones in Canada and around the world to mark the International Day of La Francophonie.

This day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the French language and Canada’s French heritage, as well as the rich cultural traditions brought to us by French-speaking communities everywhere. Spoken on all continents, the French language plays an important role in the advancement of democracy, peace, and human rights.

From British Columbia to New Brunswick, Ontario and, of course, Quebec, French is spoken in all regions of the country. However, the rights of Francophones continue to be threatened. New Democrats will always fight to protect and improve services for Francophones across the country.
