NDP Statement on Black Ribbon Day
Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, issued the following statement:
“On Black Ribbon Day, we remember the victims of totalitarian ideologies – including Nazism, fascism, and Stalinism – around the world, who have faced hatred, genocide, displacement, and war.
Countless crimes against humanity were perpetrated in the name of totalitarian and fascist ideologies and regimes, and today we remember the victims and survivors of these crimes.
Our thoughts are with Eastern and Central European Canadians and their families who were forced to flee their homes, or who were victims of violence, terror, and genocide at the hands of these regimes – and with all other people in Canada and around the world who have been victims of totalitarianism.
As we reflect today, let’s reaffirm our belief in human rights, and commit to never stand by in the face of people’s suffering.”
