NDP statement on the 7th anniversary of Quebec City Mosque shooting
Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:
“Seven years ago today, a gunman entered the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City and murdered six men, with many more being injured. This horrific night changed families and a community forever, and what happened needs to be mourned and remembered.
This weekend, the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City opened its doors to those who wanted to commemorate the attack as an occasion to come together and remember this tragedy, regardless of religious affiliation or cultural background.
Since this cowardly, Islamophobic crime happened, Canada has seen a rise in Islamophobia and anti-Muslim incidents. We all must take a stand against hate, racism and Islamophobia with real action and change.
New Democrats mourn with the families of the victims of this horrifying night. We also reaffirm our unwavering commitment to fight against Islamophobia, racism and hate in all its forms.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their communities, schools and places of worship – and that the future New Democrats are fighting for.”
