NDP marks World Ocean Day
Canada’s NDP Leader made the following statement:
“Canada has the longest coastline in the world, so it’s important that we do everything we can to protect it for generations to come. Our oceans are important wildlife habitats and ecosystems, and they’re the source of many jobs in Canada.
So today, on World Oceans Day, New Democrats are recommitting to taking action to clean up our oceans and end plastic pollution.
This World Ocean Day’s theme is Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean & Climate, which is about taking real steps towards creating a healthy planet.
New Democrats are doing that by pushing for an end to single-use plastic waste, calling on the government to clean up the thousands of derelict vessels leaking pollutants into Canadian waters, and cleaning up container spills.
For years, Liberal delays have halted efforts for a cleaner, more sustainable future, while the Conservatives fight over whether climate change is real.
It’s time for real climate action. Canadians are counting on our elected leaders to do better, and together, we can protect our environment, planet and future.”
