NDP marks International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia

Canada’s NDP Leader, Jagmeet Singh, issued the following statement:

“On International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, New Democrats want to recognize the hard-fought progress in protecting the rights of 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians, and to remember that we still have a long way to go in ending 2SLGBTQI+ discrimination.

Over the last year, we’ve seen a worrying trend of politicians and leaders using their platforms to spread hate and division by attacking trans youth just to gain political points. Not only are they spreading hate, but we’ve seen Conservative Premiers and Pierre Poilievre start moving to restrict access to vital gender-affirming care. It’s unacceptable.

It’s more important than ever that we all take a stand against 2SLGBTQI+ hate and discrimination and work on building a world where everyone can be who they are and love who they love with safety and dignity. I’m glad to see that this week, 2SLGBTQ+ groups have called on all levels of government to do better as part of the Rainbow Week of Action.

New Democrats stand with you and will keep up the fight against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. We won’t stop until 2SLGBTQI+ people are safe, included, and have access to barrier free gender-affirming care.”
