NDP marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day

Canada’s NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh, made the following statement:

“Eighty years ago, over 14,000 Canadians took part in the Normandy landings to free Europe from the grips of the Nazi regime.

This year, veterans and NDP Veterans Affairs critic Rachel Blaney are at Juno Beach to recognize and reflect on Canada’s contributions to the war.

We remember the courage of thousands of young Canadians who fought against hate eighty years ago.

We honour those whose young lives were cut short, making the ultimate sacrifice so we could stand here today as free people.

We will never forget their sacrifices for a more peaceful and safer world. On behalf of all New Democrats, I want to thank all veterans for their service and let them know how grateful we are to have them fighting for our country.”
