Jagmeet Singh Says By-Elections Are a Chance to Send Trudeau a Message
BURNABY – After months of delays, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh launched his campaign for the by-election in Burnaby South on Wednesday following the Trudeau government’s announcement that the vote will take place on February 25th.
“Canadians are struggling with higher and higher housing costs, skyrocketing medical fees, and deep concern for their own future and the future of our environment, but the Trudeau government keeps telling them to wait,” said Singh. “In 47 days, we will send a strong message to Ottawa that Canadians are done waiting.”
The seat of Burnaby South has been vacant since last September and while the Trudeau government called a by-election for a seat in Ontario in October, they refused to set a date for Burnaby, denying some 110,000 Canadians the right to have a voice represent them in Ottawa.
“There is a lot of disappointment here with the Trudeau government who were elected on a progressive platform but have implemented a timid agenda,” said Singh. “With a New Democrat MP people have someone in their corner, unafraid to fight for what matters most. The time for timid is over.”
