Jagmeet Singh rises above the other party leaders with solutions and optimism

MONTREAL - In the first debate of the election campaign, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh rose above the arguing of the other leaders and talked to real people in Quebec and across Canada about making life more affordable and ending Justin Trudeau’s free ride for billionaires and big corporations.

When challenged on why he forced the country into this selfish snap election, Justin Trudeau couldn’t defend his decision. Between offering more empty promises, Trudeau continued to try to make this campaign about dividing people.

Jagmeet pushed back on Trudeau with stories about real people who paid the price for his broken commitments.

“After six years, Canadians have realized Justin Trudeau may say the right things, but he has no intention of following through with them. People across Canada can’t afford those empty promises anymore,” said Jagmeet. “He talks about families, but he’s letting billionaires and big corporations get a free ride. He says he will take climate action, but he’s subsidizing oil and gas companies. He says he supports affordable medication, but he cut pharmacare out of his plan. It’s not enough to say it---you have to deliver. I’m not Justin Trudeau. I mean what I say and I’m ready to fight for people.”

While Jagmeet talked about solutions, Blanchet was more interested in picking fights than talking about what really matters to Quebecois. It’s clear he has no interest in doing anything to make Ottawa deliver for people. He’s also off base with where everyday people are when it comes to climate action and reconciliation with Indigenous people.

Jagmeet dismissed Erin O’Toole’s transparent attempts to appeal to progressive voters.

“Time and time again, he’s teamed up with Justin Trudeau to vote against help for people,” said Jagmeet. “No one believes him when he says he’s going to help working people. Canadians know he’s going to make cuts at every opportunity.”
