Lori Idlout, MP - Constituency Assistant, Casework - Permanent, Part-Time Position (20 hours/week)

Responsibilities
- Manage and respond to constituent casework including intake, outreach, and correspondence
- Administer and log incoming phone calls, emails, faxes, and walk-in traffic
- Liaise with various federal government departments and community organizations
- Assist with Member’s constituent and critic-related correspondence
- General administrative and reception duties
- Maintain database lists and direct mail to constituents in coordination with Ottawa parliamentary office
- Represent Member at events and meetings as required
- Monitor events in constituency and advise Member on issues in the constituency
- Assist in coordination of Member’s schedule
- In consultation with Parliament Hill office, coordinate and manage outreach opportunities relating to the Member’s work in the riding
- Liaise with House of Commons department and Member’s Ottawa office to ensure smooth coordination of constituency office including office logistics and overseeing expenses as required
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Proven communication skills (verbal and written) in English
- Strong organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
- Proven research and case work skills
- Knowledge of government departments, community organizations and the labour movement
- Strong computer skills including Internet, Windows, and MS Office
- Knowledge of Nunavut riding and riding priorities
- Knowledge of the New Democratic Party and sound political judgement
- Experience with database management, an asset
- Media relations skills, an asset
- Bachelor or master’s degree in social work, or equivalent experience, an asset
- Ability to speak Inuktitut is strongly desired
- Vehicle and license, an asset
Hourly rate
$32.70
(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
