Add your name to support the NDP and its plan to immediately erase simple possession records for all Canadians:
Too many Canadians face unnecessary barriers and hardships after being convicted of simple possession of cannabis – from difficulty finding a job or renting an apartment, to not being allowed to volunteer on a child’s soccer team.
These barriers are felt even more by Black, Indigenous and other marginalized communities, who are 3 to 9 times more likely to be arrested for personal possession of cannabis. All this while many other members of society are less likely to even get charged, and are far more likely to be able to make those charges go away. It is another shameful example of how inequality persists in Canada.
The Liberals have put forward no plan to help Canadians convicted of something which is no longer a crime. It's time to erase the records for those convicted of simple possession.
