On Monday, I arrived home from the international climate change summit in Paris where I met with people from around the world about how we can tackle climate change.
The task at hand is critical, and it can’t wait any longer to be addressed.
We owe it to the world and future generations to do better. We owe it to them to make this international summit a success because climate change is a threat to humanity.
Join me in calling on world leaders for real action now. Sign the petition today
I welcome the new government's tone on climate change but words must be backed by a plan and real action, and Canada still does not have that. When I was the Environment Minister in Quebec, we reduced greenhouse gas emissions and made living in a clean environment a right. I will continue to push this government for a real plan to tackle climate change – and I’m ready to help them as we move forward together.
Canada can lead the way in the fight against climate change by:
• Enshrining ambitious emission reduction targets in law; • Helping less developed nations adapt to the impacts of climate change; and • Strengthening Canada’s environmental assessment processes so new projects will not derail reduction targets.
Strong action on climate change is not only possible – it’s absolutely essential. Rachel Notley and the NDP team in Alberta are proving it can be done. Their ambitious plan will tackle climate change and grow the economy.
It’s time for Canada to take the lead on the world stage. Add your name to the call by signing our petition today.
