NDP statement in reaction to environment minister’s climate denying comments

OTTAWA – Official Opposition Environment critic Megan Leslie (Halifax), has issued the following statement in reaction to the environment minister’s comments doubting climate science:

Climate change is real and its impact is already hurting communities in Canada and around the world.

Sadly, the Conservative environment minister has now associated herself with a small fringe that continues to deny the science of climate change.

The Conservatives have repeatedly chosen to ignore dire warnings from the international scientific community, the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Energy Agency and Canadians on the need for urgent action to keep global temperature rise below 2 degrees.

Our international credibility has been eroded as a result of the Conservatives’ failures. The minister’s reckless comments will only further isolate Canada.

New Democrats stand with all Canadians who want immediate action on climate change to protect our collective future.
