NDP statement on the Up for Debate proposal to discuss women’s issues
NDP national campaign director, Anne McGrath made the following statement on the Up for Debate’s new proposition to move forward with one-on-on interviews:
“We are very happy that the Up for Debate organizers are moving forward with one-on-one interviews with the federal party leaders to discuss women’s issues and Tom Mulcair will of course participate.
A debate would be our number one choice, but unfortunately Stephen Harper scuttled the debate by refusing to participate. We have been in ongoing discussions with the Up for Debate organizers to ensure that women’s issues are at the forefront of this campaign and one-on-one interviews were one of the options we suggested. We have also made sure that these one-on-one interviews will be bilingual.
The NDP has a long, proud history of fighting for women’s equality and we will continue our work to improve the lives of Canadian women and girls.”
