Mulcair urges Harper to help bring injured children from Gaza to Canada
Official Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair wrote to Prime Minister Harper today, urging him to support a growing movement to bring injured children from Gaza to Canada for treatment.
“I’m writing to ask you to pledge your personal support—and that of the Government of Canada—to the proposal launched by Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish,” Mulcair wrote. “I am confident that any action by your government to help enable this humanitarian initiative will receive support among all federal political parties.”
New Democrats also launched a petition in support of Dr. Abuelaish’s project: http://petition.ndp.ca/children-from-Gaza. They are inviting supporters of this important initiative to send Stephen Harper a message.
“Many Canadians are asking themselves what we can do to help,” Mulcair said in his letter. “Dr. Abuelaish's unifying message of reconciliation is an example to us all. He believes that to achieve peace, we must refuse to hate. Only in that spirit can we hope to bring people together to forge a just, secure and lasting peace.”
