Jim Flaherty’s Bike Tax PART II

Like peeling back the skin of an onion, Jim Flaherty’s 2013 budget is a stinker. We are learning daily about the increased cost to consumers for this misguided budget, and we're not just talking about their iPod tax.

And once again Canada’s cyclists are being punished by the Conservatives. They have to pay more!

“Bike manufacturer Dorel Industries says Ottawa's decision to increase tariffs on imported bikes… will drive Canadian consumers to shop across the border in the United States. Chief executive Martin Schwartz said the company won't be hurt because it sells bikes and juvenile products on both sides of the border and will simply pass along the increased costs to Canadian consumers.”

–Higher bike tariffs will drive cross-border shopping, CP, Apr 5, 2013

Conservatives are raising prices on bicycles through border tariffs. That is a Conservative tax on importation - and Canadians are paying the price.

When you increase the tax on bicycles and encourage people to go shop in the US, you're not creating economic prosperity in Canada.

Canadians deserve better.
